L’dor V’dor Naturals is owned, operated, and run from step one to step one hundred by us two sisters, Rachel and Rebekah. We have taken this opportunity to write a little bit about our history and how we came to create a business that we are proud of and passionate about. Please have a peak, and while you are at it, explore the other pages, posts, and products on our website.
Our name is an homage to both of our parents, who strongly influenced our lives. The inspiration came from the name of our parent’s bakery, Vie d’Or Bakery, and our Biblical heritage which lead us to discover the common phrase, l’dor v’dor which means “from generation to generation” in Hebrew. We feel it embodies our company’s values of leading by the example of using good quality nature sourced products and preserving our planet for our future generations. This is also why we feel strongly about giving back and search for nonprofit organizations that have values in line with our own, check out our Giving Back page to learn more.
Our mother always impressed upon us an interest in natural and preservative free food, we spent our summers growing and canning many of our own vegetables and our evenings around the dinner table, eating home cooked meals. This left a strong impression on us, when we grew up we applied the same focus to all areas of our life, using natural products around our homes and in our skincare.
Growing up my sister and I were always close, though I was the little sister that tortured her by tagging along everywhere. As we grew older she influenced my interest in makeup and most importantly, in skincare. When I was 15, I was in a fire that left me severely burned, with burns and eventually scars across my face and arms. I thank God for the doctors and nurses that took care of me during this time, it was a long, slow healing process but one that ultimately left me with barely a visible scar. During this time I learned a lot about skincare and how the products you put on your skin are absorbed deep into your skin and into your body. I also ended up with very sensitive, delicate skin that was easily aggravated by chemical laden products. I first started out using olive and almond oils on my skin, to remove makeup and as a daily moisturizer. As time went on, I started to move away from natural skincare products and got sucked into using the standard skincare products you would buy at the local drugstore and through infomercials. Having never suffered from acne through my teenage years I was frustrated by the acne that I developed at the age of 20, I ended up with scars and pitting on the bottom half of my face. It was around this time that I discovered natural skincare again, I tried several new products and went back to using my old standbys as well. Within less than a week, the angry sore acne spots calmed down (really that was within a day or so) and my skin started to heal. From that day on, I was committed to using the most natural and holistic skincare I could find. But when I began reading the ingredient labels and learning more about each ingredient, I discovered that even many of the products that I thought were natural, contained ingredients that I did not want to put on my skin. I started to make my own products, first I started with deodorant (my gateway product) and moved onto chapstick before expanding into the more complicated and intricate world of skincare. The more I learned, the more mindful I was about everything I put on my body, I developed a passion for researching and creating 100% natural products.
Throughout my teenage years, I developed a love for makeup and skincare, eventually going to cosmetology school and continued on to become an esthetician. My time working at a spa as an esthetician helped me to develop a strong passion for treating skin concerns and my love of learning meant that I was always on the lookout for skincare innovations. Once I started working at the spa I learned about different skin conditions and the proper products and treatments to use. Up through my 20’s I had very oil skin, working at the spa helped me realize that my oily skin was actually a result of my skin being so dry that it was over producing oil. I was using products that were too harsh and were stripping my moisture (lipid) barrier, leaving my skin dry/dehydrated, with uneven skin tone and texture, and sensitized. This inspired me to research products and their ingredients, I was much more cautious about what I used in my skincare routine. Heading into my late 30s my skin again started to become extremely dry and sensitive, I struggled to find products that alleviated the dry, tight feeling. It was during this time that I discovered oil based skincare, I immediately noticed a difference in my skin. I found that oils provided deeper and longer lasting hydration, more than many of the products I had come across in my previous research and experience. I was still struggling with sensitive skin, so I started to research the ingredients and discovered that there were ingredients in many of these products that were causing irritation. Through my research I came across information that helped me to identify which oils are better for specific skin concerns, and helped me to develop a skincare routine that treated my own skin condition. A combination of products that my sister made and using oils to moisturize, addressed my severely dry/dehydrated and sensitive skin. This inspired me to continue to research natural skincare in an effort to help others who might be struggling to find products that work for them, which married my love of clean ingredients with my previous work as an esthetician.
Growing up, our evenings were spent around the dinner table dreaming up business ideas with the family. We would sit and talk about how we would design the business and support our community. For about 14 years Rebekah and I would talk about how we wanted to turn our love of researching the best natural skincare ingredients and making our own products into a business that would allow us to live out our dream of sharing it with others. Finally, in early 2017 I had an epiphany, that I wanted to take the chance and turn our years of daydreaming into reality. Rebekah was just as excited, and we jumped in with both feet. Our husbands and families have been incredibly supportive of us, making sacrifices so we could dedicate much of our “free” time to the early days of the business. Living our values every day, with our families and our business is incredibly important to us both. We regularly take a step back, evaluate our business, and ask ourselves if our business represents us in the way we want, and adjust accordingly. We hope this dedication to honesty, trustworthiness, and strong values is evident in the service and products you receive. Please feel free to email us at email@example.com if you have any questions or would like to learn more about our company.
